Previously, a Nixle message was sent concerning the Borough’s initiative to provide Community information via Nixle, along with tips on how to utilize your Nixle account. The purpose of this message is to provide Nixle navigation tips for deleting and/or adding towns to your alert list. For example, you might want to eliminate a town that you are receiving alerts from or, because you work in a certain town, you might want to add that area to your Nixle alert list. You also have an option to view daily activities of a town, without adding it to your alert list.
Additions and deletions to your Nixle account can be accomplished by text message or through your Nixle account.
DELETIONS
A. Delete by Text Message
- The text message is the quickest and simplest way to remove a town from the text message alerts. Subsequent to receiving the unwanted message, simply enter the word “stop” in the message block and send (see attached screen shot). You will, however, still receive emails, which can only be removed through your Nixle account.
B. Delete through Nixle Account
1. Go to Nixle login
a. Enter your phone number or email address
b. Enter your password*
* If you don’t have password text 888777 and enter the word PASSWORD in the message block and follow the prompts. IF YOU ENCOUNTER A PROBLEM contact Nixle at 877-649-5373, and the voice prompt for residential issues.
2. First screen is a list of messages labeled Home
a. Go to the bottom left side of page and click on DESKTOP VERSION. Then go to SETTINGS on the top of the page (see attached screen shot)
b. Click on the OPTION box located within the message block (see attached screen shot)
c. Click on the drop down word UNSUBSCRIBE and follow the prompts. Both text and emails will be deleted (see attached screen shot)
ADDITIONS
A. Text Message
1. Enter 888777 in the recipient block, and the zip code of the town you would like to receive alerts from, in the Message block, hit Send. You will start getting alerts from the town and some of the surrounding towns (e.g., if you entered the zip code for Rochelle Park, you also will start getting alerts from Saddle Brook)
B. Nixle Account
1. Log into your Nixle account (see above directions for Deletions).
2. Under the NAVIGATION block, click on “search for public safety agencies and schools” link (see attached screen shot)
3. On the page labeled Finding Agencies, enter the town name in the “Find” block, and hit GO. If the town name isn’t accepted, enter it in the “Near” block and hit GO.
4. An accepted town will be revealed that has an option to subscribe (see attached screen shot). Click on SUBSCRIBE and follow the prompts.
SELECTIVE TOWN SEARCHES
There may be instances where you might want to see activity in another town, but don’t want to receive text alerts or emails on an ongoing bases. For example, you have business in Cliffside Park and want to see if there are any road closure or emergency parking bans.
- Log into your account (see above directions)
- Go to the bottom left side of the page and click on DESKTOP VERSION and then go to the block label Navigation and Discover on the top right side of the page ( see attached screen shot)
- Enter the town name and hit GO. Using the above Cliffside Park as an example, you will see anything listed for that town. However, once you logout, you will not receive Cliffside Park text alerts or emails.
