Man charged with child pornography and extortion

South Brunswick man charged with child pornography and extortion

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Raymond Hayducka of the South Brunswick Police Department announce that a man from South Brunswick has been arrested on charges of manufacturing child pornography, endangering the welfare of a minor, possession of child pornography, extortion, cyber harassment and terroristic threats.

Danuiel Howse age 19 of South Brunswick was arrested on April 19, 2019, and charged with 35 criminal counts which include 3 counts of manufacturing child pornography in the first degree, 6 counts of endangering the welfare of a minor in the third degree, one count of possession of child pornography in the second degree, 6 counts of extortion in the second degree, 6 counts of cyber harassment in the third degree and one count of terroristic threats in the fourth degree.

Chief Hayducka credited the tenacity of the detectives who followed the leads. “This case came together because dedicated detectives pursued leads for over a year. It was great investigative work by South Brunswick Detective Brian Sites and Middlesex County Prosecutors Office Detective Ryan Tighe to follow the leads through fictitious accounts and encrypted social media networking sites to capture this defendant,” said Hayducka.

The investigation was conducted by the South Brunswick Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. Detectives executed search warrants at the defendant’s residence and seized his electronic devices. Middlesex County Prosecutors Office Cyber Unit recovered over 1,000 items depicting the sexual exploitation of children from those devices.

The investigation determined that from at least September 2017 to December 2018, the defendant caused to be created and extorted and distributed child pornography. During this same time period, the defendant assumed a false identity on social networking sites with the purpose to extort and harass victims. The defendant is charged with endangering minors for the online activities he conducted.

House was taken into custody by the United States Marshal’s Service at Atlantic City Airport on Friday. He is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick pending a Detention Hearing scheduled for April 26, 2019.

The investigation is active and is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Brian Sites of the South Brunswick Police at (732) 329-4000 ext. 7496, or Detective Ryan Tighe of the Middlesex County Prosecutors Office at (732) 745-3287.
