APD took 85 stolen auto reports in March, 77 of those had the keys in them

In March of this year APD made reports on 85 stolen vehicles in the city limits. Of those 85, 77 had the keys with them and 22 of those 77 were left running. We want to be clear that the blame is always on the thief, but if the keys were not left in those 77 vehicles, chances are we would have had far less stolen autos reported last month.

This might sound repetitive, but we have to be better as a community about taking our keys out of our vehicles. Whether it is a thief that is out specifically looking to steal a running vehicle or an auto burglar that comes across a set of keys and just takes the vehicle, these people are out every day looking to take advantage of you. You can see on the included map that these thefts aren't happening in a certain neighborhood or on a certain side of town, they are everywhere!

Don't think that this can't happen to you. Take everything out of your vehicle every time and lock your doors
