On April 15, 2019, around 11:45 p.m., Jackson police responded to a Shot Spotter alert at 33 Carver Avenue. Officers arrived to find a victim with gunshot wounds near the C building. The victim was identified as Cornelius Fields, 36, of Jackson. Fields was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators responded, processed the crime scene and attempted to interview witnesses. The case is active and ongoing as police are attempting to develop leads.

Jackson Police Chief Julian Wiser said, “Due to the recent uptick in shots fired calls and gang violence in that area, the police department will be adding additional resources. The Street Crimes Unit and Gang Enforcement Team will have a strong, proactive presence. I encourage community members to stay involved and call the police if you see criminal activity in your neighborhood.”
