The Wilmington Police Department joins the Delaware Department of Justice in announcing a guilty plea reached in a 2018 homicide case.
 
The Delaware Department of Justice has announced the following:
 
A 53-year-old Wilmington man pleaded guilty to the 2018 stabbing death of his girlfriend. In January 2018, Kevin Dyton repeatedly stabbed and slit the throat of 58-year-old Annette Henry in the apartment the two shared on the 1600 block of West Fourth Street. Dyton fled from the apartment after the stabbing, and was arrested after police located him by following a trail of blood to a vacant home on the 200 block of North Dupont Street.
 
Dyton pleaded guilty to Murder Second Degree and Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, and faces sentencing by a Superior Court judge in July. Deputy Attorneys General John Downs and Nichole Warner secured the plea. The DOJ prosecution team included paralegal Jaime Prater and social worker Stacey Murphy. Detective Mackenzie Kirlin of the Wilmington Police Department was the chief investigating officer.
 
Captain Malcolm Stoddard, commander of the WPD Criminal Investigations Division, applauded investigators and patrol officers for their response to the incident and their initial investigation, which led to the prompt identification and apprehension of the suspect.
 
“Our investigation in this case led to the rapid arrest of a dangerous individual,” said Captain Stoddard. “I commend our patrol officers and investigators for relying on their astute observations and using evidence at the scene to lead them to the killer.”
