Wilmington Police Department meets with owner and managers of Bill's Deli Market

Wilmington Police Department leadership met with representatives of Bill’s Deli Market at 940 North Pine Street today regarding the emergency closure order that was issued by Chief Robert J. Tracy on April 8, 2019 following a shooting incident with six victims that occurred outside of the store.

Chief Tracy, along with Inspector Charles Emory (Uniformed Services Division) and Captain Anthony Bowers (Sector 2), met with the store owner and managers, as well as the property owner, to discuss the activity that has historically taken place both inside of the business and directly outside of the business.

The conversation was productive, and the store owner and managers understand the expectations of the Wilmington Police Department regarding loitering, drug activity and other potential criminal activity taking place in and around their business. Immediately following the meeting, Captain Bowers conducted a site visit to ensure appropriate ‘no loitering’ signage has been installed. Following that satisfactory visit, the store was allowed to be reopened just before 11 a.m.

“We look forward to working with the store owner and managers to ensure that the nuisances and criminal activity at that location are abated,” said Chief Tracy. “We all have a shared responsibility to ensure that quality-of-life concerns can be quickly resolved and that such concerns do not pose a threat to public safety.”
