GTPD Media Advisory: GTPD Respond To 9-1-1 Call and Safely Resolve Male Barricaded in Home
On April 14, 2019 at approximately 3:51 AM, the Gloucester Township Police received a 9-1-1 call for a disturbance at a home on Berkshire Road in the Brittany Woods neighborhood.
Officers responded and encountered a 46 year old male at the front of a home, who was breaking various items at the property, and threatening to harm himself with a knife. The male fled into the home before officers could make contact with him. Numerous attempts were made to speak with the male, but he refused to exit the residence, as officers maintained a perimeter around the home. To help ensure the safety of officers on scene, the community, and the male in distress, the Gloucester Township Police Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team responded and arrived on scene.
During continued conversations throughout the early morning hours, the male repeatedly advised officers that he was distraught and wanted to harm himself. After hours of speaking with him, he eventually agreed to come outside and speak with officers where he was safely taken into custody at approximately 9:40 AM. The male was transported to Jefferson Hospital in Cherry Hill for medical evaluation and treatment. There are no charges in this incident at this time. There were no injuries.
