IMPD Homicide detectives arrest mother for neglect, after 8-year-old shot to death

INCIDENT TYPE: Neglect Arrest

INCIDENT LOCATION: 5600 Culver St

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives have arrested Tiffany White (38) for neglect of a dependent causing death, after her 8-year-old was shot and killed.

Just after 5:40 p.m. on 03/24/2019, officers with the IMPD were dispatched to Assist EMS at a IFD station in the 5500 block of E 38th St. Responding officers located an 8-year-old female suffering from an apparent gunshot wound(s). The girl, later identified as Kendrielle Brye, was brought to the fire station by a parent. EMS personnel rushed the child to Riley Hospital where she later died.

Homicide detectives were led back to the residence of the impacted family in the 5600 blk of Culver St. Detectives obtained a search warrant and recovered potential evidence with the assistance of the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency. They also interviewed potential witnesses on-scene. During the course of their investigation, detectives uncovered evidence at the scene that shows Kendrielle did not shoot herself.

Detectives developed probable cause for the arrest of Kendrielle’s mother, Tiffany White. White was located and arrested by the IMPD Violent Crimes Unit on 04/11/2019. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office reviewed the case and White is currently charged with neglect of a dependent causing death, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, possession of cocaine, and possession of a controlled substance. She was later transported to the Main Jail.
