Winter Storm Warning until 09:00PM Saturday

A storm system passing over central and southern New Mexico tonight and Saturday combined with low level east winds will bring accumulating snow to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Raton Ridge and Johnson Mesa as well as the Northeast Highlands. Although snow is expected to begin over the higher elevations of the Sangre de Cristo mountains late today, the snow level will lower and snow will become heavier and more widespread over the region tonight. * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches expected.

* WHERE...Northern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet including Red River, Southern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet, East Slopes Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Raton Ridge and Johnson Mesa.

* WHEN...From 6 PM this evening to 9 PM MDT Saturday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel could be very difficult, especially through mountain passes. Visibility may be reduced below one half mile at times in heavy snow and fog. The weight of wet snow on trees and power lines may lead to local power outages.

* AFFECTED AREAS: RATON RIDGE/JOHNSON MESA ... SOUTHERN SANGRE DE CRISTOS ABOVE 9500 FEET ... EAST SLOPES SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS ... NORTHERN SANGRE DE CRISTOS ABOVE 9500 FEET/RED RIVER
