INCIDENT: Attempted Murder

LOCATION: 15600 block of Jay Post Rd, Victorville

SUSPECT(S): Steven Lerma, 56-year old Victorville resident

VICTIM(S): Mikal Copple, 52-year old Victorville resident

SUMMARY: On April 8, 2019, deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to a stabbing in the 15600 block of Jay Post Road. The reporting party informed Sheriff’s Dispatch there was a male victim down in the street and the suspect was still at the location.

Upon arrival, deputies located the victim, Mikal Copple, on the ground in front of his residence. He had been stabbed multiple times and was in need of medical attention. Through investigation, deputies learned the two men were involved in an argument. During the argument the victim threw dirt at the suspect and the suspect began stabbing him with a knife. A neighbor saw the men fighting and intervened.

The suspect, Steven Lerma, lives just down the street from the victim and was contacted and detained at his home. He was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for attempted murder. The victim was airlifted to a nearby trauma center. He was treated and later released from the hospital.
