Motorcyclist with gun and drugs flees from deputy
Deputy Jesse Hicks of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Jonathan Trey Sloan, 31, address listed as Dobbins Street in Marion, with fleeing to elude arrest, possession of a firearm by a felon, driving while license revoked, failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to stop at a red light, possession of marijuana and possession of methamphetamine.
At 3:55 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, Hicks was patrolling on Veterans Drive, when he spotted a motorcycle with an altered registration tag. When Hicks tried to stop the motorcycle, the driver sped up, leading the deputy on a pursuit to West Tate Street and U.S. 221 North, where the suspect was traveling north in the southbound lanes.
Above Baxter Healthcare, the motorcycle tried to drive through a field, hit a drainage ditch and flipped.
Hicks recognized the driver as Sloan. A search of Sloan and the bike turned up a handgun and small amounts of methamphetamine and marijuana.
