The 2 month old female injured in the Sunday morning accident on I-27 has died at a Lubbock hospital.

The 2 month old female injured in this crashed has died at a hospital in Lubbock. The accident remains under investigation by the APD Traffic Investigation Squad.
 
 
***Updated Info on Accident***
 
On April 7, 2019 at 10:50 AM, an APD officer drove up on a major motor vehicle collision in the 3300 block of South I-27.  A 2003 Ford Taurus, driven by a 21 year old female, was in the left lane stopped due to a flat tire.  The Ford was rear ended by 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by a 28 year old female.  The Hyundai spun after the collision and was then struck head on by a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 24 year old female.  A 2 month old child passenger in the Taurus was taken to a local area hospital with life threatening injuries.  Another small child and a 19 year old male from the Taurus were taken to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The driver of the Santa Fe and three children who were passengers were taken to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The driver of the Silverado and her passenger, a 23 year old male, were uninjured.  The incident is under investigation by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.

The southbound traffic lanes of I-27 have reopened. The investigation into the accident is ongoing and information will be released when it is available

The Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit has been called to the scene of a major traffic accident in the southbound lanes of I-27 under the 34th Avenue overpass. One person has been transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. The Southbound lanes are completely closed to through traffic at this time and will remain that way for the next couple of hours. Please avoid the area or expect delays while the investigation is ongoing.
