AFD Responds to Fatal Early Morning Structure Fire

This morning at 2:08 A.M., AFD Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting a fire in a one-story, single family residence on the 5000 block of Strawberry Road. The callers reported both smoke and fire was visible coming from the house. The first AFD units arriving on location found the structure fully involved with fire showing through the roof and coming out the windows. As the fire was spreading into adjacent trees, wood fencing, and threatening other homes, crews immediately began a defensive operation to stop the spread of the fire.
The fire was brought under control by 2:55 A.M., and as crews searched the structure one victim was found. There were no other occupants, and no injuries to firefighters occurred. A total of thirteen fire apparatus, command, and support apparatus responded to the fire. Due to the significant damage to the structure, the cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is currently under investigation.
