INCIDENT: Welfare and Institutions Code 5150

LOCATION: 7293 Dumosa Avenue, Yucca Valley

SUBJECT(S): 28-year-old male, resident of Walnut Creek

SUMMARY: On Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at about 4:35 P.M., deputies went to a 5150 call at the Crisis Walk-in Center in Yucca Valley for a man acting strangely in possession of a screwdriver. Deputies arrived and contacted the man inside of the business. The man was armed with the screwdriver and held it to his neck. Staff were evacuated from the business. The man made multiple statements that he was going to stab himself with the screwdriver in an attempt to end his life.

Deputies negotiated with him to prevent him from harming himself. The man refused all help and instructions that the deputies gave him. The man became more aggravated and continued to threaten to end his life with the screwdriver. The man pressed the screwdriver against his neck and deputies intervened to prevent self-harm or harm to assisting deputies. The man was detained without further incident and placed on a 72-hour psychological evaluation per W&I 5150.
