BPD is alerting residents to a reported phone scam where the caller ID is showing as Bedford Police.

The Bedford Police Department is investigating a reported phone scam that occurred on Friday, March 29th. The caller ID at the residents home showed up as, the Bedford Police Department. When the victim picked up the phone the person on the other end identified themselves as an officer and that they had a warrant for their arrest. The caller told the victim that they could clear up the warrant by paying $3,500.00. The victim, not wanting to get arrested asked how the warrant could be cleared. The caller told the victim the best way was to go to the local store and purchase pre-paid cards and send them to him. This is a scam and the Bedford Police Department will never ask for payment on a warrant over the phone or ask you to purchase pre-paid gift cards to clear up a warrant. If you do get this call hang-up and contact the Bedford Police Department at 472-5113.
