Vehicle stop leads to drug trafficking charges against pair of suspects
Deputy David Jones of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 39-year-old Rodrigo Valdez, address listed as Old Highway 10 West in Marion, and 32-year-old William Zachary Willis, address listed as Bethamy Drive in Marion, each with two counts of trafficking methamphetamine and one count of possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a weapon of mass destruction and simple possession of marijuana.
Jones also charged Valdez with driving while license revoked.
At 2:04 a.m. on Friday, March 8, while patrolling on Sugar Hill Road, Jones stopped a Ford truck at Pilot Truck Stop for traffic violations.
Valdez was driving the truck, and Willis was the passenger.
A subsequent search by Jones, Deputy Jordon Frisbee and officers with Marion Police Department revealed a handgun, a sawed-off shotgun, 200 grams of methamphetamine, 40 grams of marijuana and cash.
