On April 3, 2019, The Torrance Police Department will conduct a bicycle and pedestrian safety operation intended to educate drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians about traffic safety.  During this time, several Motor Officers will devote their time balancing traffic enforcement and community education.  The Torrance Police Department is committed to ensuring the community is safe.  
 
Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
 

DRIVERS – PLEASE:
 
 Be courteous and patient.
 
 Wait for pedestrians to cross the street.
 
 Reduce your speed when approaching intersections with heavy foot traffic.
 
 Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and share the road with bicyclists.
 
 Do NOT drive distracted. 

BICYCLISTS - PLEASE:

  Wear a helmet; this is required for those under 18.
 
 Ride with the flow of traffic.
 
 Let faster traffic pass.
 
 Utilize hand signals when turning or stopping.
 
 Avoid darting between vehicles.
 
 Wear bright / reflective clothing.

PEDESTRIANS - PLEASE:

 Only cross the street via crosswalks or at intersections.
 
 Look out for vehicles backing up.
 
 Avoid darting between vehicles.
 
 Make eye contact with drivers.
 
 Wear bright / reflective clothing.

Let’s help reduce the number of pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities by promoting traffic safety.
