Today, Chief Magistrate Wanda Dallas issued an order to the Sheriff’s Office to release criminals on signature bonds.  Sheriff Victor Hill has voiced his concerns through email with articles showing statistics that jurisdictions that allow signature bonds not only increase their crime rates, but failure to appear rates increase causing Sheriffs more wanted people that they have to find.  Sheriff Victor Hill stated that last year Clayton County due to the joint efforts of all of the law-enforcement agencies, saw a dramatic overall decrease in crime.   The Sheriff has serious concerns that bringing signature bonds into the equation will now endanger all of the progress Clayton County has made fighting crime.

The Sheriff’s Office will document how many people who are release on signature bonds fail to appear to court and commit subsequent crimes as a result of being released on signature bonds to keep the public informed.
