#LASD Special Victims Bureau Investigating Child in Critical Condition, Boy’s Father Arrested for Child Abuse

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau is continuing to investigate the abuse of a 6 year-old boy. The boy’s father has been arrested for abusing the child. The date, time and location of the abuse is also part of the investigation.

On Sunday, March 17, 2019, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Parks Bureau deputies responded to a local hospital regarding a child abuse investigation involving a 6 year-old male Black suffering from severe head injuries.  Special Victims Bureau detectives immediately responded and took over the investigation.

During the investigation, the biological father, Wendell Travon Martin, a 27 year-old male Black, was identified as the suspect in the case and arrested.  After a lengthy investigation, the case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Complex Child Abuse Unit for their review.

On Tuesday, March 19, 2019, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed one felony count of Assault on a Child becoming Comatose/Paralyzed.

Suspect Wendell Travon Martin, aka Travon Wendell Martin, is currently in-custody and is being held in lieu of $1,000,000 bail.  His next court date is set for April 18, 2019 at Torrance Superior Court.  

The Special Victims Bureau is continuing with the investigation involving Wendell Travon Martin.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau.
