PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release
Sunday March 24, 2019
Issued By:
Lt. Ed Crosby, Petaluma PD, 707.778.4325
Patrol Watch Commander Sat-Tues.
Incident: Arrest for Residential and Commercial Burglary
Crime: 459 PC
Report Number(s): PPD 19-1143, 19-1145
Incident Date : Saturday March 23, 2019

Incident Time: Approximately 1915 hours (7:15 pm)
Location(s): 1700 Block of Spyglass Road, Petaluma; TJ Maxx, Petaluma
Suspect: Evan David Thomas, 26 years old, Petaluma transient Incident Summary:
On March 23, 2019 at approximately 7:15 pm, an adult male resident of a home on the 1700 block of Spyglass Road in Petaluma awoke from a nap upon hearing sounds in his living room and discovered Thomas there. Thomas was unknown to the resident, who was home alone. When confronted by the homeowner, Thomas fled out the front door and ran toward a creek across the street from the house. It does not appear that Thomas fled with any property from the home.

It was discovered that Thomas had entered the home via an open kitchen/dining room window toward the back of the house. Thomas entered the back yard through an unlocked gate and removed the screen over the open window.

A neighbor witnesses Thomas fleeing from the house, and another neighbor’s home security camera system captured Thomas’s approach to the home.

Petaluma Police Officers searched the area for the suspect and found Thomas on Sartori Drive, where it crosses the creek leading from Spyglass Road. Thomas was detained without incident and was subsequently arrested for residential burglary.

At the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of a backpack with numerous items of clothing from TJ Maxx in Petaluma. The clothing still had the store tags attached. Subsequent investigation on Sunday, March 24 confirmed Thomas had stolen approximately $500 worth of clothing from TJ Maxx in Petaluma about three hours prior to his entering the home on Spyglass Road.

Thomas was booked at Sonoma County Jail.
