Advisory

A registered sex offender was found to be living in the Rancho/Upland area and failed to register with police

DATE/TIME: March 22, 2019

INCIDENT: PC 290 – Failure to Register as a Sex Offender

LOCATION: 600 Block Elm Way, Upland

SUSPECT: Jonathan Edward Byrd, 38-years-old, resident of Upland

SUMMARY:

In 2007, Byrd was convicted of various sexual acts against a child under the age of 14. As a result of that conviction, he was ordered to register as a Sex Offender for the remainder of his life.

Byrd last registered in May of 2018 in Ridgecrest, CA. In January 2019, Investigators learned Byrd moved from the residence in Ridgecrest and was possibly living somewhere in Rancho Cucamonga or Upland.

Detectives from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department were notified and conducted an extensive investigation and determined Byrd was living at a residence in the 600 Block of Elm Way in Upland. Byrd never registered with Upland Police Department as living at this address. Through investigation, it was found Byrd was purposely trying to conceal his residency, so law enforcement would not know where he was living.

On March 19, 2019, detectives located Byrd at a residence in the City of Rancho Cucamonga and placed him under arrest for PC 290. Detectives served a search warrant at this residence and located evidence establishing his residency. Byrd was booked into the county jail. Through further investigation, detectives have learned Byrd has worked for various restaurants in City of Industry and is currently employed at a local restaurant near the Montclair Place mall.

Byrd remains in custody at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga in lieu of $250,000 bail. Byrd will be arraigned in Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court on March 22, 2019.

Ridgecrest Police also filed criminal charges against Byrd for Felony PC 290.013 – Failure to notify law enforcement prior to moving. Byrd has a pending court date in Kern County on that case on April 16, 2019.

Detectives are releasing the booking photo of Byrd in case anyone has been victimized by him. If you have any further information regarding this case, and/or additional victims, you are urged to contact the Rancho Cucamonga Police Detective Division at (909) 477-2800.
