On Thursday, March 14, 2019 at approximately 1113 hours, CPD officers were dispatched to the Dollar General Store located in the 1800 block of Dairy Avenue regarding a female shoplifter who left the business in a black Toyota sedan driven by a second female subject. While officers were checking the area for the vehicle, the reporting party was able to provide the license plate to the Toyota which had been reported stolen to the Hanford Police Department that same morning.
Officers learned both females entered the store as one of the females then began stealing make up and toiletry items from an aisle. The two females exited the store separately and one of the females then stole a large pack of toilet paper.
At approximately 1142 hours, CPD officers located the stolen Toyota parked in front of the Rite Aid located in the 1500 block of Whitley Avenue. One of the female suspects was detained as she was seen walking away from the Toyota and the second female suspect was located and detained inside Rite Aid.
The vehicle was reported stolen by the owner while in front of her place of employment in Hanford, CA at approximately 8:30 am that morning. The stolen Toyota was later released back to the owner after it was recovered. Officers located several items of property stolen from the Dollar General Store inside the stolen Toyota.
The suspects, identified as Breann Monet Martin (age 25) and Jackie Carol Swafford, were both charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and shoplifting. Martin was also charged with providing a false name to a peace officer. Martin and Swafford were later booked at the Kings County Jail in Hanford, CA.
