RE: EIGHT CHARGED IN UNDERAGE ALCOHOL OPERATION

This week officers of the Jackson Madison County Metro Narcotics Unit conducted an operation targeting the illegal sale of alcohol to minors. Investigators utilized two adult informants under the age of 21 to attempt alcohol purchases at 31 local businesses. The informants successfully purchased beer from 8 locations in the city. The clerk at each location who sold to the underage adults was issued a citation to appear in Jackson City Court on a charge of Selling Alcohol to an Underage Person.

The locations and the name of the clerk from whom the purchases were made are as follows:

1. Phillips 66, 2085 Hollywood Drive

3. Amoco, 644 Old Hickory Blvd.
Clerk: George McClendon

4. Mega Mart, 2400 N. Parkway
Clerk: Cassandra Bunch

5. Exxon, 1400 N. Highland Ave.
Clerk: Shadi Abder-Razeg

6. Bull Market, 1291 N. Highland Ave.
Clerk: Abujaber Obada

7. Raceway, 2305 N. Highland Ave.
Clerk: Krushnakumar Patel

8. Speedway Fuel Mart, 2119 N. Parkway
Clerk: Jessica Blankenship

In addition to the charges that each clerk faces for selling to an underage person, the cases will be forwarded to the City of Jackson Beer Board for action against the businesses.

The following locations were attempted, but refused to sell to our underage informants:

Varsity Market, 398 N. Parkway
Shell, 1817 N. Parkway
Phillips 66, 1929 Hwy 45 Bypass
Love’s Truck Stop, 2050 Hwy 70 East
Bull Market, 935 Hollywood Dr.
BP, 2059 Hwy 70 East
Horizon, 2184 Hollywood Dr.
Express Mart, 2255 Hollywood Dr.
Trinity Food Mart, 1586 N. Parkway
Citgo, 2268 Hollywood Dr.
Horizon, 340 Parkstone Pl.
Food Mart, 29 Kenworth Dr.
Bull Market, 105 Carriage House Dr.
Amoco, 236 Oilwell
Hollywood Smoke Shop, 903 Hollywood Dr.

These operations have begun in conjunction with a grant obtained by the Jackson Madison County Community Anti-Drug Coalition and will continue at random intervals throughout the year.

In an operation earlier in the month, investigators utilized the two underage adults to attempt purchases at 22 locations, however there were only two illegal purchases made.
