Wilmington Police arrest Newark woman after store robbery

Wilmington Police have arrested and charged a Newark woman after she was caught stealing items from a store.

On March 8 at approximately 2:15 p.m., police on patrol were flagged down by an employee of the Family Dollar located in the 1000 block of West 4th Street. The employee reported that a 43-year-old Newark woman, Kelli Collins, had attempted to leave the store without paying for items. When confronted by another employee, Collins struck and shoved that employee before fleeing from the store. Another employee chased Collins on foot, and Collins dropped the items she had stolen.

Police were provided with a description of Collins and her clothing, and located her walking in the 300 block of West 3rd Street. When approached by police, Collins attempted to hide behind parked cars before fleeing on foot. She was taken into custody without incident and initially provided officers with a false name and date of birth.

Collins has been charged with the following:

  • Robbery (Second Degree)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Criminal Impersonation
  • Hindering Prosecution

Collins was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and released on $9,000 unsecured bail.
