Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Homicide Bureau detectives are investigating a Deputy-Involved Shooting that occurred on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at 10:31 p.m., 7600 block of Seville Avenue, Huntington Park.
 
Investigators learned that Century Station deputies were patrolling the Walnut Park area when they attempted to contact a suspicious vehicle which had pulled into a driveway near the location.  As the deputies exited their vehicle and approached the suspect’s vehicle, the suspect placed her vehicle in reverse and accelerated towards the deputies at which a deputy-involved shooting occurred. 
 
Shortly after the suspect fled the area, she abandoned her vehicle and was later apprehended a short distance away by deputies without further incident.  The suspect was treated for minor injuries which she sustained as a result of the deputy-involved shooting. 
 
The suspect, Nancy Herrera, a 24-year-old female Hispanic, was arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon against a Peace Officer (245(C) PC) and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
 
The investigation is ongoing, and there is no additional information available at this time.

Whenever a deputy-involved shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies, and a person is struck by gunfire, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene.  These include separate investigations by the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau.  The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department immediately notifies the Office of the Inspector General who sends a representative to the incident scene and provides independent oversight throughout the investigative process.  Once concluded, a preliminary review is conducted by the Critical Incident Review Panel to determine whether any immediate actions are warranted.  Every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.  Input from Constitutional Policing Advisors is provided during the process.  The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Justice System Integrity Division, conducts a legal analysis to determine whether any criminal charges will be filed and if the shooting was legally justified.

NARRATIVE:
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are responding to investigate a Deputy Involved Shooting.  The incident occurred on Thursday March 14, 2019, at approximately 10:40 p.m., on the 7600 block of Seville Avenue, Huntington Park.    
            
The suspect was treated at the scene for her injuries.
