Fremont Police Traffic Officers are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred Thursday night in the Warm Springs District.

On Thursday, March 7, 2019, at 7:34 p.m., Fremont Police and Fire personnel responded to the report of a major injury collision involving a 2000 Lexus sedan and a pedestrian at the intersection of Mission Blvd. and Warm Spring Blvd. 
Upon arrival, public safety personnel found a man laying the roadway suffering from major injuries.  At 7:46 p.m., the man was pronounced deceased.  The male driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.   
Video from the City’s Community Cameras as well as video from a VTA bus captured the incident.  The video showed the signal light cycled to green for southbound vehicular traffic and the pedestrian light also cycled to permit pedestrian crossing.  The victim then started walking within the crosswalk.  As the man crossed the roadway, he was initially almost struck by a vehicle turning right from south-bound Warm Springs turning west onto Mission Blvd.  Immediately after, as he continued walking, a second vehicle turned right and struck the man. 
The victim is in his 60’s and is a Fremont resident.  His name is being withheld until the Alameda County Coroner is able to notify next of kin.
While it’s not believed alcohol and drugs are a factor, the driver submitted to a blood test.  It’s expected that results from the toxicology reports will take a few weeks and the investigation remains ongoing at this time.  Anyone with information is asked to please contact, Traffic Investigator [email protected] or call 510-790-6760.
