THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE IS TRANSMITTED AT THE REQUEST OF THE COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER. Avalanche Warning for the northern San Juan Mountains.

* TIMING...Beginning 12:00 PM, Tuesday March 12. Expires at 6:00 AM Thursday March 14.

* AFFECTED AREA... San Juan Mountains, San Miguel Mountains, Rico Mountains, La Garita Mountains above 10,000 ft

* AVALANCHE DANGER...Very dangerous avalanche conditions exist. The avalanche danger is HIGH (Level 4 of 5). Very large avalanches are occurring in the Lake City area.

* REASON... Intense snowfall, strong winds, and warm temperatures at low elevations have made avalanche conditions very dangerous. Large and destructive avalanches are likely.

* AFFECTED AREAS: UNCOMPAHGRE PLATEAU/DALLAS DIVIDE ... NORTHWESTERN SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS ... LA GARITA MOUNTAINS ABOVE 10000 FT ... SOUTHWEST SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS
