Winter Storm Warning until 06:00PM Tuesday

A Pacific storm will move across southern California today and into New Mexico through Tuesday. Snow levels will hover around 9,500 feet today then rise to near 10,000 feet through Tuesday afternoon. Very heavy wet snow is likely to impact the higher terrain with 10 to 20 inches possible. High mountain peaks may see over 2 feet. Much colder air will filter into the area by Tuesday night and snow levels will fall quickly. A more significant winter storm is possible Tuesday night through Thursday.

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 20 inches above 9,500 feet. Periods of rain are likely later this afternoon and again Tuesday afternoon below 10,000 feet.

* WHERE...San Juan/Tusas Mountains, Northern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet including Red River and Southern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet.

* WHEN...From 6 AM this morning to 6 PM MDT Tuesday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel could be very difficult over high mountain passes.

* AFFECTED AREAS: SOUTHERN SANGRE DE CRISTOS ABOVE 9500 FEET ... NORTHERN SANGRE DE CRISTOS ABOVE 9500 FEET/RED RIVER ... SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS
