UPDATE: The suspect wanted in connection with the shooting of a woman at a local gas station has been arrested

LOCATION: 76 Gas Station, 6760 Carnelian Ave. Rancho Cucamonga

SUSPECT: Orlando Frank Mancilla, age 38 a resident of Highland

SUMMARY: UPDATE: Saturday, March 9th
After releasing a photograph of the suspect wanted in connection with the attempted carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon, investigators from the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Station began receiving calls from members of the public and other law enforcement personnel regarding the identity of the suspect. On the afternoon of Friday, March 8, 2019, investigators identified the suspect as 38-year-old Orlando Frank Mancilla. While investigators prepared arrest and search warrants for Mancilla’s residence in the city of Highland, officers from the Colton Police Department discovered Mancilla was at the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) for unknown reasons. Deputies responded to ARMC and took Mancilla into custody with the assistance of Colton police officers without incident. Mancilla was booked at the West Valley Detention Center on charges for Attempted Carjacking and Assault with a Deadly Weapon (firearm). His arrest warrant was issued with a $350,000 bail amount.

At about 7:00 p.m., deputies from the Specialized Enforcement Division and Rancho Cucamonga Station served a search warrant at Mancilla’s residence located in the 26000 block of Seventh Street in Highland. Investigators located and seized several firearms and a large amount of ammunition inside Mancilla’s residence. The evidence seized included one AR15 rifle, one AR15 style 22 caliber rifle, one AK47 rifle, one 12-gauge shotgun and one 22 caliber pistol, and approximately 100 pounds of various caliber ammunition.

On Friday, March 8, 2019 at approximately 12:25 a.m., a Hispanic male adult approached the victim’s vehicle in the gas station parking lot as she pumped gas into her vehicle. The male attempted to open the driver’s door and told the victim to get out of the car. The victim put her vehicle in reverse and drove out of the parking lot. The suspect brandished an unknown type handgun and fired five rounds at the victim’s vehicle striking it three times. The victim was not injured. The suspect got into a newer model Kia Forte and traveled south on Carnelian Avenue. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’07” and weighing approximately 140 to 160 pounds. He was wearing dark baggy pants with a green and grey camouflage jacket.

After the incident, the suspect entered the gas station and was caught on video surveillance cameras.

Detectives are releasing a surveillance picture of the suspect and his vehicle.
