High Wind Warning until 11:00PM Friday

Strong southwest to west winds will continue across much of northern and central New Mexico this afternoon through early evening with gusts of 45 to 60 mph. Strong southwest to west winds will redevelop around midday on Friday with widespread wind gusts of 50 to 70 mph over most of western and central New Mexico and areas east of the central mountains through Friday evening. Blowing dust will develop over much of the area Friday afternoon and evening with areas of blowing snow in the southern Sangre de Cristos. Sudden visibility reductions below one half mile will occur in some areas. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a High Wind Warning, which is in effect from noon to 11 PM MST Friday.

* LOCATION...Southern Sangre de Cristos.

* WINDS...West 25 to 40 mph with gusts ranging from 55 to 65 mph through early this evening. Southwest to west winds Friday afternoon and evening ranging from 35 to 45 mph with gusts to around 65 mph.

* TIMING...Strong winds will continue through early this evening. Winds will strengthen again around noon on Friday and continue through late Friday evening.

* VISIBILITY...Locally reduced in patches of blowing snow.

* LOCAL IMPACTS...Travel on north and south oriented roads may become difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Damage to weak or light weight structures is possible.

* AFFECTED AREAS: SOUTHERN SANGRE DE CRISTOS ABOVE 9500 FEET

Remember, A High Wind Warning means damaging winds are imminent or highly likely. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.
