Homicide Investigators are conducting an investigation of a homicide that occurred at West Valley Detention Center 
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, March 5, 2019/7:12 p.m.
INCIDENT: Murder Investigation
LOCATION: West Valley Detention Center, Rancho Cucamonga
SUSPECT: Lager George Reid, age 22 a resident of Compton
VICTIM: Robert Vernon Sutton - 58 year old, resident of Los Angeles
SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at approximately 7:12 pm, while serving dinner to inmates, deputies observed the victim,down in his cell. Deputies entered the cell and immediately rendered emergency life-saving measures; medical staff arrived within minutes and continued CPR. Emergency fire and AMR personnel responded and transported the victim to a local area hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 8:10 pm. The victim was housed in a two-person cell with the suspect, Lager George Reid.
Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators responded to the detention center to conduct the investigation. Investigators have determined that the victim and the suspect were involved in a physical altercation prior to the victim falling to the floor.
The suspect, Lager George Reid was arrested on March 3, 2019, for PC243(D) Battery with Serious Bodily Injury and booked into the High Desert Detention Center and was later transported that same day to West Valley Detention Center. The victim, Robert Vernon Sutton, was arrested on February 1, 2018, for PC211 Robbery and booked into the West Valley Detention Center.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office to determine the cause of death.
