Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s OHV Grant Request Available For Public Review And Comment

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station is preparing to submit the department’s annual Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) grant request. The application will be available for review for a 60-day review by the public beginning on March 4, 2019 and ending on May 6, 2019.

SCV Sheriff’s patrols one of the largest geographical areas within Los Angeles County. The station oversees an area over 600 square miles, which includes Valencia, Newhall, Canyon Country, Saugus, Castaic, and Val Verde. These areas have hundreds of miles of off-highway vehicle (OHV) riding trails, and thousands of acres of open land where recreational OHV riders frequent. The station also has several dedicated OHV riding areas within its jurisdiction, including Hungry Valley, Rowher Flats, Drinkwater Flats, and Texas Canyon.

In order to conduct enforcement of off-highway vehicle riding areas, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) team was formed nearly twenty years ago. The team is funded through grants from California State Parks, as well as funds provided by the City of Santa Clarita.

The public may view the application or provide comments by visiting the State Parks website at http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/. Questions may also be directed to Sergeant Mike Konecny at [email protected] and carbon copying [email protected]
