On March 1, 2019, at 3:20 a.m. Deputy Ben Kiesel and Sergeant John Fischer were dispatched to a residence in the 10000 block of East County Road 540 South to perform a welfare check. Upon approaching the residence and speaking with an occupant that was inside the residence Sgt. Fischer believed that there may be illegal drug activity occurring inside the residence. At that point Deputy Kiesel and Sgt. Fischer applied and obtained a search warrant for the residence. With the assistance of officers from the Oakland City Police Department and Indiana State Police Deputy Kiesel and Sgt. Fischer served the warrant.

At the end of their investigation 41 year old Robert Melton of Princeton and 36 year old Adam Staat also of Princeton were taken into custody. Upon being transported to the Gibson County Jail Mr. Melton and Mr. Staat were both charged with Possession of Methamphetamines and Possession of Paraphernalia. They both have since posted a $750 bond.

All Criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
