Advisory

Body of an adult female discovered in marsh area near Broad River Boat Landing this afternoon, SCDNR investigating.

Early this afternoon, a boater discovered what appeared to be a human body in a marsh area near the Broad River Boat Landing. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) responded and confirmed it was a human body. The body, believed to be that of an adult female, was recovered from the marsh area and brought to personnel of the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office, who took custody of the body.

The Coroner’s Office has scheduled a forensic autopsy to be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina, which is expected to aid in the determination of the cause and manner of the woman’s death. The clothing found on the deceased woman’s body is similar to what 19-year-old Mallory Beach was reported to have been wearing at the time she was ejected from a boat in Archer Creek on February 24.

This advisory was distributed at the request of the Coroner’s Office. Media inquiries regarding the February 24 boat accident are directed to the SCDNR, the investigating agency.
