Winter Weather Safety Tips

With colder temperatures approaching, we want you to follow these simple cold weather safety tips to help keep you, your family, your pets, and your home safe.

- Wear layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing.
- Wear a hat. Try to stay out of the wind.
- Cover your mouth to protect your lungs from extreme cold.
- Limit your time outside. You can still get frostbite in as little as 30 minutes in this cold weather.
- Let hot and cold water trickle or drip at night from the faucet.
- Open cabinet doors to allow more heat to get to un- insulated pipes under the sink or near an outer wall.
- Make sure heat is left on and set no lower than 55 degrees.
- Never use a stove or oven to heat your home.
- If you use a space heater, make sure nothing flammable is within 3 feet of the heater.
- Remember, if you are cold outside, your pets are as well so bring your pets in to protect them.
If you find yourself in an emergency situation due to the effects of cold weather, call 911 immediately.
