SUMMARY: Between January and March of 2018, the Victorville Police Department’s Gang Enforcement Team investigated the Five Time Hometown Crips criminal street gang, based in San Bernardino. The investigation was conducted in response to the murder of 12-year old Makaya Wall on August 9, 2017. Wall was killed by a documented Five Time Hometown Crips criminal street gang member. Investigators identified several Five Time Hometown Crips gang members living in the city of Victorville. Investigators also learned of a Five Time Hometown Crips firearms and narcotics trafficking ring based in Victorville; with ties to their home turf in San Bernardino. The Five Time Hometown Crips gang was responsible for multiple murders in the high desert area and were one of the main sources of firearms and narcotics being supplied to Victorville City.
The gang actively recruits prospective members from our communities, usually children from our neighborhoods and schools. Members and associates of the gang actively sell narcotics and weapons to further their criminal organization and to instill fear in the community. Victorville Police Department’s Gang Enforcement teamed up with the Regional Gang Enforcement Teams and San Bernardino Police Department to stop the violence constantly perpetuated by the Five Time Hometown Crips criminal street gang.
The investigation was funded by crime suppression grants provided by County Supervisor Robert Lovingood and was authorized by the City of Victorville and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. In total, the investigation lasted approximately 8 months. Many of the crimes were committed in the High Desert and city of San Bernardino. Several crimes involved interstate trafficking of firearms and controlled substances. The investigation yielded (20) firearms, (2) pounds of cocaine, (1/2) pound heroin, (1/2) pound of methamphetamine, (1,000) pills and $18,000 in U.S. Currency. 35 subjects were indicted on charges ranging from: conspiracy, possession of narcotics for sales, possession of controlled substances for sale, felon in possession of firearms, possession/distribution of child pornography, felon in possession of ammunition, high capacity magazines, and gang enhancements. Because of the investigation, the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office issued warrants for 35 subjects related to the investigation.
On February 27, 2019 and March 1, 2019, Victorville Police Department’s Gang Enforcement Team conducted a targeted operation, utilizing additional resources from the Sheriff’s Department, San Bernardino Police Department, and San Bernardino County Probation, to locate and arrest the subjects with outstanding warrants, connected to the investigation.
