ADVISORY: FLOODING AND ROAD CLOSURES LIKELY IN OAK MANOR AREA AND OTHER LOW-LYING AREAS DUE TO STORM

Ukiah, CA. February 26, 2019.  – A flood warning is in effect for the low-lying areas of the Ukiah Valley, including the Oak Manor area.  River projections show possible impacts in these areas between about 5:00 pm on February 26 through about 9:00 am on February 27.

Residents in areas prone to flooding should be prepared with sandbags, which are available at no cost at Friedman’s Home Improvement, located at 1255 Airport Park Boulevard.  Other possible impacts include mudslides, falling trees or limbs, and possible power outages.

Floodwaters can present additional hazards like open manholes and submerged debris, so any unnecessary travel should be avoided.  Do not attempt to cross flooded roadways, as a vehicle can be swept away with just a few inches of water.

If unsafe situations are observed, like downed power lines or blocked roadways, please call 9-1-1 immediately. Note that some trees have power and/or communication lines attached to them; these trees and lines should not be touched.  If you are a City of Ukiah utility customer, please call the power outage 24-hour hotline at 463-6288 to report any downed power lines or power outages.  If you are a PG&E customer, please call 800-743-5000.

The City of Ukiah will continue monitoring the incoming storm and will send alerts out through Nixle, either by text or email.  To sign up for these alerts, please visit the Ukiah Police Department’s website at  http://ukiahpolice.com/.  Information will also be available on the City of Ukiah’s facebook page, www.facebook.com/cityofukiah.com/

Residents are encouraged to prepare for this storm by:

  • Reducing or eliminating unnecessary travel during the storm period
  • Having emergency supplies on hand: sandbags, prescription medications, food/water, flashlights, battery-operated radio, extra batteries, important documents, supplies for your pets, etc.
  • Checking on neighbors who may have special needs in advance of the storm
  • Preparing for potential power outages due to wind, downed trees, etc.
  • Removing debris from gutters and drainage areas, placing sandbags out in potential flooding areas.
  • Checking to insure pets/livestock are safe, especially those animals that live outside
  • Listening to your local radio and television stations for changing weather and emergency alerts

Please use 9-1-1 for emergencies only.
