Flood Warning: Flooding Forecast to Continue in Mendocino County

The National Weather Service (NWS) has extended a Flood Warning for Mendocino County in areas near the Russian and Navarro Rivers. The current forecast shows a slight decrease in river levels this morning before additional rain will cause the Rivers to once again rise later today (2/26) into tomorrow (2/27) morning. Continued flooding in low-lying areas of Ukiah, Talmage, Hopland, and Navarro are forecast.

Russian River
The current forecast from the NWS predicts the Russian River to reach the following stages tonight and tomorrow:
* Minor Flood stage (21 feet) at 8 PM tonight
* Moderate Flood stage (23 feet) at 10 PM tonight
* Crest/Peak at 24.1 feet at 1 AM tomorrow morning.

According to the NWS the following impacts are predicted if the Russian River reaches the forecast peak of 24.1 feet: "Flooding of farmland. Highway 175 near the Russian River closed due to flooding. Flooding of buildings and homes in low lying areas in Hopland and begins in the Ukiah and Talmage area. Severe bank erosion can occur. Highway 175 near the Russian River closed due to flooding. Many secondary roads flooded in the Hopland, Ukiah and Talmage areas."

Navarro River
The Navarro River is currently at Minor Flood stage. The current forecast from the NWS predicts the Navarro River to reach the following stages tonight and tomorrow:
* Moderate Flood stage (30 feet) at 7 PM tonight
* Crest/Peak at 33 feet at 3 AM tomorrow morning.

According to the NWS the following impacts are predicted if the Navarro River reaches the forecast peak of 33 feet: "Water will flow over the south bank of the river approximately 1 mile east of Highway 1, and begins to flood property in this area including six homes. Expect closure of Highway 128. Motorists should use alternate routes."

Sand and Sand Bags
In a partnership with local fire districts, Mendocino County OES has sand and sand bags at the local fire departments:
Laytonville Fire
Little Lake Fire
Brooktrails Fire
Fort Bragg Fire
Covelo Fire
Potter Valley Fire
Hopland Fire

The Mendocino County Office of Emergency Services (OES) is currently at a minimal activation level and will continue to monitor conditions closely. Additional updates will be issued as conditions warrant.

  Eel River at Fernbridge affecting Humboldt County

Another round of moderate to heavy rain is forecast to occur
across northwest California this afternoon and tonight.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

SAFETY MESSAGE...

Do not drive your car across flooded roadways. It only takes about
two feet of water to float most vehicles. For area road conditions,
call Caltrans at 1-800-427-7623.

The Flood Warning continues for
  The Navarro River at Navarro.
* until Wednesday evening...or until the warning is cancelled.
* At  3:15 AM Tuesday, the stage was 26.2 feet.
* Minor Flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 23.0 feet.

* FORECAST...This river is forecast to crest near 33.0 feet early
  Wednesday morning, then forecast to fall below flood stage of
  23.0 feet near noon Wednesday.
* IMPACTS...At 34.0 feet, significant flooding over the south bank
  approximately 1 mile east of Highway 1 will occur. Property damage
  to inlcude the six homes along the river is possible. Expect
  closure of Highway 128. Motorists should use alternate routes.
