INCIDENT: Man with a Gun/Attempt Murder of a Peace Officer/Deputy Involved Shooting 

LOCATION: 17900 block of Bear Valley Road, Victorville 

SUSPECT: Daniel David Messmer, age 24 a resident of Apple Valley

VICTIMS: San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputies 

SUMMARY: 
On Saturday, February 23, 2019, at approximately 4:15 pm, deputies from the Victorville Police Department, Sheriff’s Aviation and officers from the Victor Valley College responded to a report of a man with a gun inside the Shell Gas Station in the 17900 block of Bear Valley Road. The reporting party stated that the suspect, later identified as Daniel David Messmer, was armed with a handgun and appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance. Upon arrival, deputies located the suspect in the desert area east of the gas station armed with a handgun. Deputies gave multiple commands, pleading with the suspect to drop his weapon. The suspect failed to comply with the deputies’ commands and pointed his gun at the deputies. Fearing for their safety and the safety of nearby citizens, a deputy involved shooting occurred. Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene, and pronounced the suspect deceased. 

Detectives from the Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail responded to the scene to conduct the investigation.
