On February 20th 2019, detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit (PCU) assisted by the East County Street Narcotics team and the Moorpark Police Department concluded a three month narcotic investigation into Jonathan Kontos, who was involved in the sales of suspected heroin and methamphetamine to residents of Ventura County.

Detectives located and detained Kontos in Granada Hills and served a signed search warrant on his person, vehicle and at his residence. During this investigation detectives were able to seize approximately 2.5 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, five ounces of heroin, miscellaneous prescription medications and a large sum of U.S. currency deemed to be the proceeds from illegal narcotics transactions. . Detectives also located two assault style rifles, one 9mm handgun, ammunition, a bullet proof vest and an extended magazine drum capable of carrying

100 rounds of rifle ammunition.

Kontos was booked into custody at the Ventura County Sheriff’s East County Jail facility for 11351(a) H&S – possession for sale of a controlled substance, 11378 H&S – possession for sale of a controlled substance. Additional charges related to the firearms are pending. Kontos was released after posting $50,000 bail. Kontos arraignment court date is scheduled for March 11th, 2019.

The Ventura County Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit is a task force made up of members from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Thousand Oaks Police Department, the Simi Valley Police Department, and the Ventura Police Department. The primary mission of the task force is combatting the transfer of legal prescription medication to the illegal market. In addition, the task force works to identify and stop new trends of abuse among the younger population and investigates overdoses due to both prescription medication and illicit drug use.
