Winter Storm Warning until 05:00AM Saturday

A significant winter storm will impact New Mexico into Saturday. Large snowfall totals are likely, especially along the Continental Divide and in the Tusas, Jemez, Sangre de Cristos and Southwest Mountains. This storm will likely cause significant travel impacts tonight through Friday night across western and central New Mexico. Breezy to windy conditions will cause some blowing and drifting snow with greatly reduced visibilities.

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches in the Upper Rio Grande Valley, with 6 to 12 inches in the mountains expected. Locally higher amounts possible on west facing slopes and high peaks. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow.

* WHERE...West Slopes Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Northern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet including Red River, Southern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet and Upper Rio Grande Valley.

* WHEN...From midnight tonight to 5 AM MST Saturday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel will be very difficult to impossible on roadways. Periods of low visibility are likely in falling and blowing snow.

* AFFECTED AREAS: SOUTHERN SANGRE DE CRISTOS ABOVE 9500 FEET ... NORTHERN SANGRE DE CRISTOS ABOVE 9500 FEET/RED RIVER ... WEST SLOPES SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS ... UPPER RIO GRANDE VALLEY
