Woman dies in early morning Soap Lake house fire

Near SOAP LAKE, Wash. (21FEB2019) – A woman died early this morning in a house fire near Soap Lake.

Emergency responders were called about 12:20 a.m. to 4777 Road 19-Northeast for a house fire. One of the occupants, Samuel E. Engelhardt, was outside chopping wood when he noticed the double-wide manufactured home was ablaze. Englehardt told responders that his friend was asleep on the couch when he went outside. A woman’s body was found inside the home after the flames were extinguished.

The body is in the care of Coroner Craig Morrison whose staff will confirm the identity of the person and conduct an autopsy. The coroner, the Grant County Fire Marshal and Grant County sheriff’s detectives are investigating, which is normal procedure after a death is believed to have been caused by a fire. The identity of the victim will be released once confirmed and next-of-kin has been notified.

Grant County fire districts 7 and 13, Soap Lake police, sheriff’s deputies and American Medical Response all answered the initial call.
