Advisory

Unknown suspects pried open public mailboxes inside the post office and stole the mail out of them

DATE: February 15, 2019 and February 19, 2019

INCIDENT: Theft of Mail- Federal Offense

LOCATION: 6600 block of Amethyst Street

SUSPECT: Unknown

SUMMARY:

On Friday, February 15th, and Tuesday, February 19th, deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department responded to the post office located in the 6600 block of Amethyst Street for the report of mail theft. On both days, unknown suspects pried open a total of 92 public mailboxes and stole the mail out of them. The mailboxes are located inside the post office’s lobby. Due to the fact that the theft occurred inside the United States Post Office, the U.S. Postal Inspector Brad Barnes is assigned to the case, USPS report #CA141837723.

The post office recently adjusted its hours to accommodate people getting their mail on the weekends and evenings. This possibly created a window of opportunity for this crime to occur. Access to the P.O. boxes inside the post office on Amethyst will now resume to regular business hours.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to contact the U.S. Postal Inspector Brad Barnes at 1-877-876-2455. Callers wishing to remain anonymous can call the We-tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463) or you may leave information at www.wetip.com.
