Deputies arrest a convicted felon for evading, possession of firearm/ammo & stolen property

DATE/TIME: February 14, 2019 / 3:15 p.m.

INCIDENT: Evading a Peace Officer with Disregard for Safety, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Receiving Known Stolen Property (Firearm)

LOCATION: Interstate 15, Victorville

SUSPECT: Thomas Strong, 22-year old Victorville resident


SUMMARY: On February 14, 2019, Deputies J. Dean and K. Campbell, with the Victorville Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Division, observed a 2018 Chevy Cruz traveling at a high rate of speed on northbound Interstate 15 near Palmdale Road.

The deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop, activating their emergency lights and sirens. The driver of the car, Thomas Strong, continued northbound before exiting the freeway at Mojave Drive. Strong continued driving on several surface streets before coming to a stop at a residence in the 15500 block of Morada Road. Strong fled from the car on foot, while his two juvenile passengers were detained at the Morada location. Deputies pursued Strong on foot and captured him in the 15600 block of Village Drive.

A stolen handgun and ballistic body armor were located inside of the vehicle. A search warrant was obtained for the Morada residence. During the search, deputies recovered a rifle and multiple rounds of ammunition. Strong, a convicted felon, was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for evading a Peace Officer with disregard for safety, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and receiving known stolen property.
