Kern County Sheriff’s Office arrests two people for a large amount of mail thefts in the Rosamond area.

Deputies from Rosamond and Mojave checked the area of Janine Ave in Rosamond to serve warrants for two suspects.

A deputy saw the suspect vehicle parked, and encountered the female suspect, 24-year-old Vanessa Navaro, outside of the vehicle.

The second suspect, 24-year-old Austin Smith, was in the vehicle, but refused to respond.

Smith was on probation for weapons charges and assault.

Smith had four warrants for his arrest, including a felony no-bail warrant out of Los Angeles County.

Additional deputies were called to the location, and residences were evacuated near the vehicle.

Smith was distraught and had been calling family and saying goodbye while smoking methamphetamine in the vehicle.

After half an hour of no answer, deputies used a pole to break the front window.
