The Marietta Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) Unit is currently investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on Cobb Parkway South in front of Dobbins Air Force Base.

The initial on-scene investigation revealed that 29-year-old pedestrian Donnivan Frye of Marietta was walking in the center turn lane of Cobb Parkway South outside of a designated crosswalk.

23-year-old Ben Garland of Acworth, Georgia was traveling northbound on Cobb Parkway in his 2007 Ford F-150 when he entered the center turn lane preparing to make a left turn into the main gate at Dobbins Air Force Base.  Garland was unable to avoid Frye and his vehicle collided with him in the center turn lane of Cobb Parkway South.

As a result of the collision, Frye was thrown into the southbound lanes of Cobb Parkway and struck a second time by a Dodge pickup that was traveling southbound on Cobb Parkway in the left lane.  The driver of the Dodge pickup was identified as 24-year-old Kory Cooper of Palmetto, Georgia.

Frye was transported to Kennestone Hospital by Metro EMS with life-threatening injuries.  Once at Kennestone Hospital, Frye succumbed to his injuries.  Both drivers remained on scene and are fully cooperating with investigators; they were both uninjured in the collision.

The crash is currently still under investigation.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Ofc. Henry at 770-794-5364.
