Wilmington Police arrest wanted man, recover firearm
Wilmington Police arrested a man carrying a loaded firearm after a brief foot pursuit on February 14.
At approximately 10:27 a.m., police responded to the area of 10th and Pine Streets after a report of a man carrying a firearm. A patrol officer, with the assistance of members of the WPD Safe Streets Task Force, began a canvass and located the man, who fled as they approached him. After a brief foot pursuit the man was taken into custody in the 1100 block of Kirkwood Street. Officers found a loaded firearm in the man’s pocket.
Police have charged 29-year-old Andrew Charles with the following:
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (Two Counts)
- Possession of a Firearm in a Safe School Zone
- Resisting Arrest
Charles was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $22,000 cash-only bail for the above charges and an additional $30,000 on previous charges for which he was wanted.
