Flash Flood Watch until 06:00AM Thursday

Rain, heavy at times, will begin early tomorrow in response to a persistent upper level jet over the area. Appreciable rainfall over the same locations may lead to flash flooding. In addition, areas along Interstate 40 that recently experienced heavy rainfall will be especially susceptible to flash flooding. The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of East Arkansas, North Mississippi, Southeast Missouri, and West Tennessee, including the following areas, in East Arkansas, Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, Cross, Greene, Lee, Mississippi, Phillips, Poinsett, and St. Francis. In North Mississippi, Alcorn, Benton, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Coahoma, DeSoto, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Marshall, Monroe, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, and Yalobusha. In Southeast Missouri, Dunklin and Pemiscot. In West Tennessee, Benton, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer, Fayette, Gibson, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Henry, Lake, Lauderdale, Madison, McNairy, Obion, Shelby, Tipton, and Weakley.

* From Tuesday afternoon through late Wednesday night

* 4 to 8 inches of rain is expected across most of the Midsouth.

* Street flooding will be a hazard for travelers. Low-lying and poor drainage areas will be at risk for flash flooding, as well as small streams.
