This morning at 7:10 a.m. Fremont Police and Fire responded to a single vehicle collision in the area of Paseo Padre Pkwy and Thornton Ave. Witnesses reported the driver of a Tesla Model X had struck a tree head on and the vehicle was on fire. The driver had been able to get out of the vehicle on his own, but was suffereing from minor visible injuries.
Fremont Fire extinguished the vehicle fire which spread to a couple of trees. The driver was transported to a hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators are looking at fatigue as a possible collision factor. The investigation remains ongoing.
Southbound Paseo Padre Pkwy was reopened at approximately 10:40 a.m.
The driver was very lucky to walk away with only minor or moderate injuries considering the extent of the collision.
