Petaluma couple arrested for residential burglary, stolen tablet leads police to their location

On Wednesday, February 13th, two adults subjects, one male and one female, were arrested a short time after committing a residential burglary in San Leandro.

the burglary occurred in the afternoon hours in the 1200 block of Dorothy Ave. in San Leandro's Lower Bal neighborhood. The resident victim called San Leandro Police to report that her home had been burglarized. The victim stated that incident occurred with the hour because that was the time she was away from her home.

When Police arrived they discovered that the victim's home had been ransacked and several items including jewelry and electronics were reported stolen. It appears the home was entered from a side door that was left unlocked.

One of the items stolen was the victim's Apple iPad. The victim was able to sign into her Apple account and "ping" the located of her stolen iPad.

The victim noticed that the iPad's location was showing a few miles away in downtown San Leandro, specifically in the Washington Plaza.

SLPD units responded to the Plaza in an attempt to locate the stolen item in the area. Officers were able to pinpoint a vehicle that was moving at the same pace as the stolen electronic tablet.

Officers conducted an investigatory stop on the vehicle that was occupied by two individuals. As officers contacted that driver, the stolen iPad was seen on the floor between the driver's feet. In addition, the female passenger was wearing several of the victim's stolen jewelry.

The occupants, 40 yr old William Kennedy, and 42 yr old Wanda Scott were both arrested on possession of stolen property and suspicion of burglary. Both suspects are residents of Petaluma, Ca.

"With the help of technology, we were able to locate the victim's stolen items and arrest two suspects for this crime," said San Leandro Police Lieutenant Isaac Benabou. "It's always a good feeling when we can return stolen items back to their owner."

Today the Alameda County District Attorney charged both Kennedy and Scott for the crimes they committed. Both subjects remain in custody at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
